| My SBI Diary in 2010"How I built my second Site Build It! website..." | ||||||||
Summary
of my SBI! journey: This will be a year of consolidation for my site, SelfHelpCollective.com. After working full-on in 2009 and parts of 2008, I only intend to spend 1 day a week on my second SBI! site this year. Still, I shall be concentrating on improving the site in terms of the following:
| |
| <<< Summary of 2009 | Summary of 201X>>> |
January, 2010
Spent little or no time on the website itself, as I spent a lot of December and January redesigning the site. And it took a good deal of time changing the site from a 2-column website to a 3-column website, and adding a new rhs column that contained relevant information to the particular self-help theme.
Hopefully, the site will now a) encourage more exploration of the site by visitors b) make it easy for people to check out inspirational poems and videos c) encourage people to want to share their story more and, finally, to d) make the site a more enjoyable and satisfying site for visitors.
Oh, and to make it easier for me to earn money from the
site! (Ahem!)
All of this was finished in January, more or less. The rough
spots will be removed and/or improved over the year.
This is what the 3-column
site looks like now! :-)
http://www.selfhelpcollective.com
I'm half-way through the month already and the traffic stats are looking great - EVEN BETTER THAN JANUARY, which was inflated by all my own visits to the site (as I tested out the new site design).
And slowly but surely I continue to make improvements to the site - whether it's to fix some mistakes made when I redesigned the site, or simply to add appropriate affiliate programs in the right hand side. All the things I've scheduled to do since I first created the site - all those things will be done this year!
The great thing about 2010, though, is that I am in no rush. It will all be done before 2011 begins, and then who knows. Hopefully, the site will be getting 1000+ unique visitors per day and heading towards 2000+ uniques...
And, in fact, February 2010 is the first time ever that there was an average of 1049 visits per day. This isn't the same as unique visitors, but still - 1000 visits per day reached is a great milestone to reach! :-)
STATS: 725 unique visitors per day, 53039 page views per month
Hmm, have settled into a bit of site-building regime now. I'm more or less building one new page per month (e.g. this one called Strange Fears) and then trying to fix any mistakes I made when I redesigned the site to be 3 column.
I'm also going through each and every page to try and monetize better. Which basically means finding out what each page's Most Wanted Response is and then making sure I change the page so it achieves that..
In most cases, this means reducing the number of links out and links to other parts of my site and making sure I only recommend one affiliate program.
Anyway, let's take a look at the stats, which seem better than February's :-)
STATS: 738 unique visitors per day (and an average of 1072 visits per day!) with 51691 page views.
I'm doing the same as in March (and May, June, July...). So all I'll comment on here, is the fact that my stats are on the up. Almost at 1000 uniques per day...
STATS: 822 unique visitors per day with 53517 page views.
Carrying on with 1 new page per month, and with writing articles to promote this and recent other new pages. (Latest new page is self improvement resources.)
830 unique visitors per day and 56817 page views.
Ditto May! Will write something interesting here just as soon as I get past the 1000 unique visitors per day, mark. Alas, the uniques went down this month. Is it the warm weather, or should I be worried? ;-)
762 unique visitors per day and 52551 page views.
Nothing much to report, still, apart from continuing on with creating new pages, and writing articles to be posted at EzineArticles.com with links to those new pages. And adding C2 contributions by visitors to Self Help Collective as and when they are made; e.g. My low self esteem signs are plenty!
Stats for July are 762 unique visitors and 54695 monthly page views
Started uploading YouTube videos as part of Weekly Wonder newsletter. It's where I talk about an inspirational quote from a favourite part of Yorkshire, England where I live. A lot of fun, indeed. And I've been using the Content 2.0 module to store the finished editions - a combination of YouTube video and my written thoughts about the quote/video.
Here's an example of what a Weekly Wonder page looks like: Inspirational quote by Gilda Radner
Stats improved too in August: 848 unique visitors and 59479 monthly page views
Stats much improved - whoo hoo! Nearly reached first real target of 1000 unique visitors per day: 972 unique visitors and 63522 monthly page views. Long may the improvements continue...
FINALLY... my target of 1000 unique visitors per day has been reached - whoo hoo!
Yes, finally made it to 1000 unique visitors, after reaching 1000 non-uniques in Feb 2010. Now the next target is 100,000 page views per month. Then 2000 uniques per month. And on and on until I reach the main (?) target of 10,000 unique visitors per month!
It's taking longer than I thought it would, I admit, but I am still mighty pleased with my progress!
STATS Stats much improved - whoo hoo! Nearly reached first real target of 1000 unique visitors per day: 972 unique visitors and 63522 monthly page views. Long may the improvements continue...
STATS for October are 1009 unique visitors per day and 68282 monthly page
Well, I've just about finished updating each and every page to make sure it achieves its MWR (Most Wanted Response) - you can learn about MWR in Make Your Words Sell, or Make Your Content PREsell (available on this free ebooks page.). This was not easy as a) there are over 170 pages on SelfHelpCollective.com and b) I still am not sure how to achieve this so-called MWR.
The last pages I've updated include pages with obvious action steps to take: contact us (fill in the contact form), newsletter (subscribe), and the about us page (build trust, and check out some great pages).
Have decided to redesign the site next year to make it easier to achieve some basic MWRs: Click adsense ads, subscribe to newsletter, buy recommended product (and reduce all such affiliate relationships to less than 10 - 10 that I can highly recommend, and be proud to promote)
Hmm, lots to do. Still fun, though, especially when traffic to the site continues onwards (1044 uniques - whoo hoo!)...
STATS: 1044 uniques per day, 68205 page views.
Winding down for the year. Putting plans in place for next year, now, with an aim to be much more focussed on earning income...
And Christmas traffic isn't great for self-help so my stats went down...
STATS: 925 uniques per day, 66029 page views.
